Run your first scan

Start a duplicate scan, choose matching strategies, and track progress.

A scan analyzes the records in your workspace and stores likely duplicates as pairs you can review. Scans run in the background, so you can close the tab and come back later.

Start a scan

Click New scan (on the dashboard) or Run scan (in the duplicate queue) to open the Start new scan dialog.

  1. Choose a record typeCompanies or People. Each scan covers one type at a time.
  2. Pick matching strategies — the methods DeDupe uses to find matches (see below). Sensible defaults are pre-selected.
  3. Click Start scan.

Matching strategies

The available strategies depend on the record type:

Companies

  • Similar Domain — catches typos like acme.com vs acme.co.
  • Similar Name — fuzzy company-name matching.

People

  • Similar Email
  • Exact LinkedIn
  • Exact Phone
  • Similar Name — fuzzy person-name matching.
  • Name + Company — the same name at the same company.

You need at least one strategy selected to start. To learn how these signals turn into a score, see How duplicate matching works.

Tracking progress

Once started, the scan moves through phases — starting → running → completing — with a progress bar and live counters for records processed and duplicates found. You can watch it here or leave; results are saved when it finishes.

Reading the results

Detected pairs land in your duplicate queue, grouped by confidence. From there you can review and merge them.

To run scans automatically on a schedule, see Schedule recurring scans.
