Resolve field conflicts

Choose which value wins for each field when two records disagree.

When two records have different values for the same field, that's a conflict. You resolve conflicts in the comparison table before merging, telling DeDupe which value the merged record should keep.

Picking a winner

In the Merge result column, each conflicting field shows the value from record A and record B. Click a value to select it as the winner — it highlights green with a checkmark. The value DeDupe recommends is marked with a star.

Under the hood each choice maps to a strategy:

  • Keep a side — use record A's or record B's value.
  • Combine — merge both into one list. Available for multi-value fields like emails, phone numbers, domains, and record references.
  • Clear — leave the field empty.

Bulk shortcuts

  • Use all from A / Use all from B — set a whole-record preference in one click.
  • Reset — restore DeDupe's recommended picks.

Your choices auto-save as a draft and persist as you navigate away, so you can come back to a pair later or carry the picks into a bulk merge.

Critical conflicts

Some conflicts are critical and must be resolved by hand — you'll see a banner like "N critical conflicts need a choice." The merge stays disabled until you pick a value for each one. Non-critical conflicts are pre-filled with the recommended value, so most pairs are ready to merge without extra clicks.

Certain fields are locked and can't be changed during a merge — system fields managed by Attio and enriched values. These always keep the primary record's value.

AI recommendations

For trickier conflicts, DeDupe can suggest a resolution with a short explanation and a confidence level. You can apply a single AI suggestion or apply them all at once, then override any you disagree with before merging.
